One of the highlights of this trip to Romania has been the privilege of getting to know Pastor Emanuel Tundrea and his wife Nadia, as well as their three precious sons, Nathan, Titus and Nahum. They face the same challenges we face, requiring the same supernatural wisdom we all need.

One day their oldest son (eight year old Nathan — who loves to eat!) was just not interested in school work. Nadia noticed that he had done a superficial job on his homework and remarked, “How would you like it if I took care of you the way you are taking care of your school responsibilities?” He shrugged, as if to say. “I really don’t care?”. The next day, as he opened his lunch bag at school, he found nothing but two dirty, unpeeled potatoes.  His friends didn’t understand, but he certainly got the message.

How about us? Are our lives filled with superficiality? Indifference? Substandard accomplishments? Doing the minimum? Are we just getting by in hopes that it won’t be noticed? Perhaps our Heavenly Father has a surprise lesson in our lunch bag. Better yet, let’s strive to give Him our best today.

After seven straight days of speaking in singles groups, seminary chapels, college classes, a two day church leaders’ retreat, two different church services, today is my last day.  I am heading off to do a radio interview and tonight I finish up with another student gathering here in Timisoara. Tomorrow, God-willing, I fly home. Pray that I finish well and that tomorrow’s lunch bag will be filled with some tasty fruit!

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31
